For Memorial Day this year, we developed a tribute the Remembrance Wall that can be found at Colombia and S. 4th St. in Vancouver, WA. The Remembrance Wall is a project that I started after reading a National Geographic article about how they were able to photograph an entire redwood tree using 3 cameras mounted on a movable scaffold that moved up and down the height of the tree. The individual images were merged together to form one gigantic image. While the Remembrance Wall was not that daunting, it still was an involved project that, at times, challenged my patience and sanity. The final result follows here. For the convenience of viewing, it still is comprised of 11 panels. Each panel consists of 4 to 5 images that have been merged together. If it were printed in its full size it would stand about 2 ft tall and measure between 45 and 50 ft. long. While the photography project was involved, the wall itself is a wonderful tribute to the men and women who fought and died in WWII and the Vietnam Wars. It includes a panel remembering the thousands of women who worked just a short distance away building “Liberty Ships”. (The Korean War panel has yet to be painted) I hope you enjoy it:
